Common orthodontic problems
Here are some of the common orthodontic problems we see on a day-to-day basis here at Splash Orthodontics, all of which we can fix with our range of treatment options.
Possibly one of the most common orthodontic problems, crowding occurs when teeth are fighting for space in your mouth. This results in your teeth overlapping each other and giving you a very crooked looking smile.
Another common orthodontic problem is that of spacing. This is the opposite of crowding and occurs when there is too much room in your mouth for your teeth. As a result, rather than your teeth sitting nicely side-by-side, they grow apart, leaving you with big gaps.
We see many patients at Splash Orthodontics with protruding front teeth. This is when your upper teeth point outwards, rather than sit nicely facing down. Protrusion can also cause a big gap between your upper and lower teeth, making for an uncomfortable smile and bite.
Another common problem associated with bite is an open bite. This is when your upper and lower teeth don’t meet when you bite at the back of your mouth. Ideally, when you bring your back molars together in a bite, your upper front teeth should slide over your lower front teeth, without any gaps occurring.
The opposite of an open bite is a reverse bite. This is when your lower teeth sit in front of your upper teeth. This occurs when your lower jaw protrudes forwards further than it ought too. As a common orthodontic problem, this, and others, are easy to fix with the treatments we have on offer here at Splash Orthodontics.
